Powerful words: talking to Canadians about climate action

This succinct report looks at salient findings of EcoAnalytics’ third Climate of Change Survey, conducted in October 2018. While it points to a significant increase in the number of Canadians who rank climate change as the most important problem facing Canada, it advises communicators to choose their words carefully, depending on the audience: for example, using “economic diversification” rather than “transition” to renewable energy when speaking to Albertans. It also includes a detailed discussion of attitudes to carbon pricing and how to talk about this contentious issue.

Keywords: conversations, narratives, health and diversification frames, carbon tax
